Margarita is a Special Vocational Training Center, founded in 1979 as a non-profit foundation, by the initiative and personal strive of a mother whose child was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, at a time when such support or activities were totally non-existent in Greece.
Margarita, provides vocational and occupational training and skills to young people with intellectual disabilities.
At present, Margarita serves about 100 students, providing them with various self-support, behavioural and daily living skills as well as special vocational training such as making of candied-almond bags (used in traditional Greek weddings), gifts, ornaments and decorations, Silk Screening and, Weaving in addition to Gardening, Cooking, House-keeping and Laundry skills.
More than 30 former Margarita’s students are currently employed in the free market economy.
Margarita is changing the processes and the procedures of a number of it’s workshops, in order to improve it’s services and provide more chances to people with learning disabilities .
What is the social impact of your business?
Margarita ‘s activities influence the lives of 100 families whose children attend our programs, helping them become more independent.
The local community comes into contact with people with learning disabilities, helping them realise their capabilities and acknowledge their rights in economical and social life.
What do you want to achieve by being part of Impact Hub Scaling?
We want to get in touch with people experienced in social entrepreneurship, learn best practices in other countries and meet experts such as designers, fundraising advisers etc.
